Since a .wma (Windows Media Audio) file does not natively work on an Apple Macintosh computer, we recommend using a free program called VLC which will allow you to play it back. If you wish to convert it to another file for easy playback later (such as .MP3) we recommend using a free program called Adaptor.

If you want to playback the file only and not convert it, install and run VLC player.

Installing VLC program.

1) Open a web browser and go to the following link: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

2) Under the "Download latest VLC for Mac OS X 10.6 and later" title, click on the box to download the program.

3) Once the download is complete, open the file. Install the program by dragging the "VLC" icon into the "Applications" folder.

4) Open the Applications folder and double click on the VLC icon to open it. It may come up with a warning that states  "VLC is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" Click "Open"

Opening a .WMA file.

1) Download the .WMA file you are attempting to play.

2) VLC will automatically open and play the file.

OR

1) Within VLC player select File>Open File.

2) VLC will automatically open and play the file.

Installing Adaptor to convert the file to .mp3 (or whatever format you wish)

1) Open a web browser and go to the following link: http://www.macroplant.com/adapter/audio-converter/  Select "Download" to start downloading the file.

2) Once the download is complete open the file. Install the program by dragging the "Adaptor" icon into the "Applications" folder.

4) Open the Applications folder and double click on the Adaptor icon to open it. It may come up with a warning that states  "Adaptor is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" Click "Open"

5) Once Adaptor opens it will prompt you to install an adaptor to convert the file. Ensure that  "Download and install FFPlayer" is checked and press "Continue"

6) It will procdeed with the download and install.

7) Once it is complete you will be greeted with a dialog box that asks you to drag and drop the files that need converted. (You can alternatively press "Browse" to find the file yourself)

8) In the bottom of the program you'll see a box that states "Select Output Format". Choose MP3 from the Audio section and press the "Convert" button to start converting.

9) Exit Adaptor once it is complete.

10) Locate the .MP3 file that you converted.

11) Enjoy!
